Especially for Visitors
Visiting a new church is not always easy. We hope the following
hints will help.
Please Join Us
Whether you are looking for a church home or simply a place to worship a Sunday away
from home, we invite you to come hear the word of God proclaimed, to sing with us in
joyful worship and to receive the sacraments of the Lord's table.
Dress Comfortably
Remember, we're in the Adirondacks! Between winter snow storms and air
condition-less summers we tend to be practical. Some of us do wear a tie or a dress
but many are more casual. We come to worship the Lord in Spirit and in truth.
We Respect Your Privacy
You won't be asked to stand and introduce yourself. We will take the time to
introduce ourselves to you.
Our Worship Service Is Easy to Follow
Good Shepherd worships in the Episcopal/Anglican tradition. Our service is printed
in a bulletin that is easy to follow, though Bibles are provided in each pew and we
do use two hymnals: a red 1982 Traditional Hymnal, and a green Celebration Hymnal.
Our service is called a "Eucharist" which means "Thanksgiving" and during it we sing
hymns, pray, listen to a sermon, and celebrate the Lord's Supper. There are two
services each Sunday at 8:00am (without music) and 10:15am (with music).
All Baptized Christians Are Welcome at Holy Communion
If you are baptized in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and believe in
Jesus Christ as Lord you are welcome to receive Holy Communion regardless of your
current denomination. Those receiving Holy Communion come to the communion rail and
either stand or kneel placing their hands together, palm upward to receive. Some may
wish to dip their bread in the wine (which is called intinction) rather than sip from
the cup. If for some reason you choose not to receive, you are welcome to come
forward, crossing your arms over your chest, to receive a blessing from the pastor.
Our Hope Is that You Will Be Blessed
We pray that everyone who attends worship in this place will hear from God and know
the real and life-changing presence of the Holy Spirit in their lives.
Welcome to Church of the Good Shepherd.
